Nature of the Linear functions in R Let's prove that the only real functions which meet the two properties of Additivity and Homogeneity, are the functions defined by f(x) = ax. (the reciproqual is quite trivial and has been shown in class). In fact it depends only of (ii) : let f(1) = a, then for any x we have from (ii) : f(x) = f(x.1) = x.f(1) = x.a = ax ========= QUERY (1) Explain why the two lines defined by 2x - y + 4 = 0 2x - y - 4 = 0 are symetrical through the Origin O. QUERY (2) Explain why the two lines defined by 2x - y + 4 = 0 2x + y + 4 = 0 are symetrical through the Ox Axis. |
